Transfer to a Queensland property licence
You must hold a Queensland licence or registration to work as a property agent in Queensland.
You can apply to transfer most interstate or New Zealand property agent licences without having to re-apply. This is known as mutual recognition.
We may add conditions to your Queensland licence or registration so you can operate in Queensland.
Non-transferrable Licences
If you gained your property licence or registration in New South Wales (NSW), you can no longer transfer your licence to Queensland. You'll need to submit a new application for a real estate salesperson registration.
New laws also mean a NSW Class 2 real estate agent licence is no longer equivalent to a Queensland real estate agent licence. You can't transfer a Class 2 real estate agent licence. You'll need to submit a new application for a real estate salesperson licence.
How to apply to transfer your licence
Current interstate or New Zealand licence holders can fill out the:
- Application for mutual recognition of occupational licence form (Form 1) to apply for a Queensland licence
- Application for mutual recognition of certificate of registration/occupational licence form (Form 2) to apply for a Queensland registration.
You can lodge these forms:
- in person at an OFT contact centre
- by post to
- Industry Licensing Unit
Office of Fair Trading

BRISBANE QLD 4001
- Industry Licensing Unit
Supporting documents
You'll need to attach the following documents to your application:
- a copy of your current interstate or New Zealand licence

- birth certificate or extract
- driver's licence
- passport
- citizenship certificate
If you've changed your name, we'll also need to see an original or certified copy of your official name change document.
Criminal history check
To confirm your suitability, we'll submit your application for a criminal history check. This will be thorough and can be time consuming.
If you were born in New Zealand or have a New Zealand passport, you need to get a copy of your criminal history or a letter indicating you have no criminal history from New Zealand. For more information, visit the New Zealand Ministry of Justice website.
We can only accept original documents dated within one month of the date you send them to us. Please note, it can take up to 20 working days to process a request for a New Zealand criminal history check. There is no fee payable for you to get a New Zealand criminal history check.
Processing time
Your mutual recognition application can take 4 to 6 weeks to process. It can take longer if your application isn't complete due to missing information or unpaid fees.
We'll contact you if your application is incomplete. If we don't receive the required information or fees from you, we may withdraw your application.
You can continue to work while we process your application, but you must:
- follow any restrictions set out on your current interstate or New Zealand licence
- stop working if your current licence expires
- retain your transfer application fee receipt and show it to an inspector if they ask to see it.
Refunds
You could be entitled to a partial refund if you withdraw your application or we refuse it.
Your criminal history check fee could also be refunded if the process hasn't started.
